Australia Take 245/8 as a Target By New Zeland

Australia made inroads into New Zealand’s top order after the openers got away to a solid start at the Adelaide Oval. Having abandoned their preference for chasing and chosen to bat for the first time in the series, New Zealand were 3 for 90 at the halfway mark with Ross Taylor on 4 and Grant Elliott on 1.
Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill had got the visitors away strongly as they set out to take a 3-1 series lead that would give them the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy. The openers carefully put on 69 before Australia picked up 3 for 17 to get their bowling effort back on track.
The removal of McCullum was particularly important after he again played an uncharacteristically cautious innings of 33 from 55 balls having been in doubt up until shortly before the WATCH LIVE CRICKET MATCH BETWEEN NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA match due to an injury to his right shoulder. McCullum had not managed a boundary and when he tried to break free by advancing to Michael Clarke, he was beaten by the drift and was bowled.
